📍Overview
Hostels aren’t just cheap beds — they’re places where strangers become family. When I stayed at Summer House Hostel in Cairns, I experienced that magic. But I also noticed cracks: Everyone is not in WhatsApp groups, confusing price differences, and no central hub for backpackers to connect & communicate.
" 🌊 Summer House – A Backpackers App " is my latest UI/UX case study, where I designed an in-house hostel app that makes bookings hassle-free and adventures seamless — creating a smoother, more social, and stress-free backpacker experience.
🚧 The Problem (Through a Backpacker’s Eyes)
- Inconsistent booking prices across platforms.
I wanted to extend my stay. → Staff asked me to check Hostel World as prices were cheaper there.
- Fragmented community communication (WhatsApp groups, posters, word of mouth).
- I wanted to join an activity. → Info was buried in a WhatsApp group or I have to sign my name on the front desk for the activity.
These were real problems I faced in real life — and I knew they could be solved with thoughtful design.
✨ What I built:
📱 Role-based onboarding (Backpacker / Staff)
🎉 Centralized community hub for events & activities
🛏️ Smarter bookings & stay extensions (no more price confusion)
🎨 A playful, tropical-inspired design system
This project is more than an interface — it’s about fixing the exact problems I faced in real life, and turning them into design opportunities.
